As Plant City prepares for its municipal elections, we conducted a community poll to gauge public sentiment on key issues, candidate support, and overall satisfaction with city services. The results highlight strong opinions on leadership, infrastructure, and the potential shift of election dates. The poll ran for approximately 4 days (Monday-Thursday) and was open to anyone who wanted to fill it out.
Challenger Camryn Henry received 65.9% of the poll votes, defeating incumbent Jason Jones, who garnered 34.1%.
Additionally, an overwhelming 73.8% of respondents supported moving the Plant City municipal elections to align with the general election date, November 8th.
When asked to identify the most important issue in this election from five options, respondents ranked them as follows (participants could select multiple options):
- Infrastructure – 75.9%
- Public Safety – 66.7%
- Economic Development – 55.2%
- Environment – 51.7%
- Education – 34.5%
On a scale from 1 (very satisfied) to 5 (very dissatisfied), respondents shared their views on the City Commission’s overall performance:
- 51.1% chose 5 (Very Dissatisfied)
- 12.5% Chose 4 (Dissatisfied)
- 8% Chose 3 (Neutral)
- 13.6% chose 2 (Satisfied)
- 14.8% chose 1 (Very Satisfied)
Feedback on public services was more mixed:
- 32.2% rated it a 5 (Very Dissatisfied)
- 13.8% rated it a 4 (Dissatisfied)
- 24.1% rated it a 3 (Neutral)
- 13.8% rated it a 2 (Satisfied)
- 16.1% rated it a 1 (Very Satisfied)
In the free-response section, where respondents could include any additional comments, the majority of written responses pertained to fixing local infrastructure, supporting first responders, and stopping over-development within the city that is leading to increased traffic and flooding out local residents.
Thank you to everyone who participated in this poll! We look forward to gathering more community input in the future.
