Camryn Henry has officially announced her candidacy for Plant City Commissioner, Group 2 in a move that signals a fresh and passionate approach to local governance. With a deep-rooted love for the community and a vision for a thriving future, Henry is eager to bring positive change while preserving the city’s rich heritage.
A Commitment to Families, Farmers, and First Responders
Henry’s campaign is centered on key pillars that reflect the heart of Plant City. Her platform includes unwavering support for families, prioritizing farmers, and standing firmly behind first responders.
“Plant City is more than just a place on the map—it’s home,” said Henry. “As Commissioner, I will work tirelessly to ensure that our families, farmers, and first responders have the support and resources they need to thrive.”
Key Priorities:
Supporting Families: Henry is dedicated to advocating for safe and successful schools, expanding parks and recreation opportunities, and fostering a community where families can flourish.
Championing Agriculture: Recognizing that agriculture is the backbone of Plant City’s economy and identity, Henry pledges to support agribusiness, protect farmers, and ensure that the city’s agricultural traditions remain strong for future generations.
Standing with First Responders: Henry emphasizes the importance of providing law enforcement officers, firefighters, and emergency personnel with the resources, training, and support they need to keep the community safe. Her commitment was evident during the December 2022 City Commission meeting, where she addressed the labor contract dispute between the Firefighters Union and city representatives. Henry advocated for fair wages and better working conditions, highlighting the essential role first responders play in Plant City’s safety and well-being1.
Balancing Growth with Tradition: As Plant City continues to develop, Henry is committed to preserving its small-town charm while creating a welcoming environment for local businesses to thrive, particularly in the downtown district.
A Call to Action
With Plant City at a pivotal moment of growth and change, Henry believes leadership must be rooted in understanding the community’s values, listening to residents, and taking action. Her campaign invites citizens to share their ideas and concerns, ensuring that the voice of the community shapes the city’s future.

“I am ready to serve, and I invite you to join me in putting Plant City first—now and for generations to come,” -Camryn Henry, Candidate for Plant City Commission
As the campaign progresses, Henry looks forward to engaging with residents, hearing their concerns, and working together to build a brighter future for Plant City.
In the 2023 election, Commissioner Mike Sparkman retained his seat after facing a challenge from Jeremy Griner, winning with 55.69% of the vote. However, the election was marked by extremely low voter turnout—only 7.98% of Plant City’s 22,261 registered voters participated. In 2024, Mary Y Thomas-Mathis ran unopposed for her seat, which meant there was no election. This underscores the need for greater civic engagement and voter awareness ahead of the 2025 race.
